Paradise Lost

Today the little guys and I traveled to the lake to visit with Grandma and Grandpa and to bring Connor back home from his extended Spring Break. Or, as he probably thinks, to steal him from paradise and take him back to the real world.

He's had more than a week of being the center of the world (a role he likes, I assure you). The transition back will be rough. He will not understand that "no" does in fact mean "no," that no amount of tears or pitiful looks will change that fact. He will not understand that every whim is not to be instantly gratified or that he cannot have every thing that his heart desires. He does not understand that he is not in charge. Essentially, life as he knows it is over.

He really hopes Grandma is reading, and that she will come save him again soon. Or, at the very least, talk some sense into Mommy.

Photo Flashback

Sawyer fascinated by something he sees (probably the light and shadows from the door). And how cute are his "shorts" that come down to his ankles! (April 02, 2007)

We Have a House Guest

Buster would like to know if anyone would like to have him at their house, because he's not so sure about him being at ours.

Spring Break

Warm weather. Sunshine. Playing outside. Does it get any better than this?

Xander getting ready for yet another slide. He alternates between lots of sliding and wanting Mommy to either swing with him or help him swing by himself. He's always very proud of himself when he's the one swinging.

Sawyer contemplating his chances of getting Mommy to swing him again.

Although, I must mention, my big boy actually did swing by himself today for about fifteen minutes (after I had put the camera away, of course). But he had one of the happiest smiles on his face that I think you will ever see. It's the one he has when he's swimming, something else he loves very much to do.

Today was a good day.

It's Hard to Be Me

Race cars. Every day. Swimming pools. Every afternoon. Popcorn and Coke (or actually, Pepsi, if I know Grandpa). Every single night. Undivided attention. All day, every day.

It's hard to be Connor right now, isn't it?

He's spending Spring Break with Grandma and Grandpa, having the time of his life and barely remembering us back at home. He spent a few days at their cabin at the lake, now he's in the mountains for a few days (hence the race cars and swimming pools), and tomorrow he will head back to the lake. He's definitely our world traveler, at all of four years of age.

He did condescend to say hello to his mother for a few minutes tonight on the phone, but only after some serious prompting from Grandma. His first response was,

"Not today."

Talking to Mommy is the first step toward coming home, you see. And he's not quite ready for that. Not today. Maybe not tomorrow or the next day. School doesn't start back until Tuesday, you know. He might be ready to come back for that.
