Summer Lacrosse

Not particularly happy to be playing lacrosse on a hot summer day, but happy when I told him we could go get some Thai food after we were finished!

Trains

Over the years, both of the twins have interests / obsessions that are important to them through stages. One of the things that has never changed is that both boys LOVE trains. Xander, in particular, really loves them. And with his photographic memory, he's always telling us the numbers off the engines and the cars that he's seen recently. His favorite, by far, is the Norfolk Southern trains that run through one of the big city parks here in our town. So while we're watching Connor practice or play lacrosse games, Xander is watching for trains. Norfolk Southern ones, not the CSX ones. And he can tell you which ones he saw on which day of practice!

College Lacrosse

Field trip with Connor's youth lacrosse team to watch one of the local liberal arts college teams play on a rainy Saturday afternoon. They got to go into the locker room with the team, hear the coach speak about starting the youth program across the state, and then watch the game ...

Sticks Up!

Sticks up!

One of the many things that I truly love about Connor is his adaptability. While we've yet to find a sport that he truly loves (we had four good years of baseball) as he gets older, I love his willingness to try.

We spent a few years with both mixed martial arts (MMA) and krav maga. We've offered basketball or soccer. And in looking towards middle school and possible teams that might help with that transition to a new school with new kids, we offered either archery or lacrosse.

Along with Boys Scouts, he did the camping and archery thing for a year or so, but it got old. He liked shooting the bow at targets on family farms, but wasn't much on going to the range just to practice.

$650 later, we ended up with lacrosse.

And, to be honest, I don't know if I would have been that brave at his age. He signed up for a new team with kids he didn't really know, put on all kinds of gear, laced up, sticks up, and off he went.

Is he the best kid out there? Nope, not by a long shot. But he's not the worst kid either. And he's learning, picking up new skills each week. He loves being part of the team, loves the winning record the team enjoys, and can be fierce on those face offs.

We know nothing about lacrosse. It strikes me as a cross between hockey and football or soccer, but it's learning a whole new game. And Connor was completely up for it. As in, three nights a week and some games on the weekends, up for it.

So here we are for the season ... at the big city park football field, learning a whole new sport and being impressed by Connor's adaptability and willingness to keep trying to find that sport he might one day love.

For now ... you'll find all of us on the sidelines cheering him and the team on ...

Back to Busy Mondays

School first, then occupational therapy, then speech therapy, then pick Connor up from middle school, then race back across town for Connor's across game, grab some Raising Cane's chicken to eat on the way (for Connor) or in the back hatch (for the twins, who are messy and riding in Mommy's still relatively new car) ...
