Baseball at School

One of the really cool things that happens with Sawyer's special education classroom is something called CBI (Community Based Instruction). Essentially, every month, the class and their support system take a school bus out into the community to do something fun ... whether it's learning an independence skill like grocery shopping or eating lunch at a restaurant, or whether it's social skills like seeing a movie or playing a game of baseball with kids from other schools.

This month's CBI was baseball with several other schools on the Miracle League Field at one of the large city parks. Our school even had an activity earlier in the week to make tie-die shirts so that everyone had the same "uniform" for the "game"!

Everyone got a certificate and a medal at the end of the day. And we took team pictures for all the teachers to have to remember the day.

I wish I could show you more pictures of all the amazing kids, athletes and the staff, but there's the issue of photography releases and right to privacy to consider. It was a really fun day, and it was amazing to watch all those teachers and staff working so hard to make sure all the kids had a great day at the baseball field.

A picnic lunch of pizza and chips followed, and Sawyer LOVED that part the most!
