Tales from the Potty

This, my friends, is where I have been spending an inordinate amount of my time lately. The good news is that one of my children is doing much, much better with the concept. The bad news is that the second one, not so much.

Xander gets points. He puts something in the potty about 90 percent of the time. If it happens on the floor, it's usually my fault for not taking him soon enough. He does occasionally get some on the bathroom floor, but that's okay, too. Still learning. He understands that once he goes potty, M&Ms and release will follow. He's all about that. He's even stood outside the bathroom door and said "pee-pee" (letters, of course, for him) a few times. He's getting there.

Sawyer is a work in progress. He knows what we're doing. But he doesn't like it and he doesn't want to cooperate. He will sit (with numerous commands and gestures) for as much as an hour and a half on the potty. There will be leakage. Clearly the kid needs to potty. He willfully stops himself and refuses. The minute you let him up, he will pee in one of his favorite spots. Usually on top of or right next to one of the HVAC registers. Even the one in the bathroom, inches away from the actual potty. Willful non-compliance, that one. But he still wants his candy. He knows it's kept under the cabinet and dispensed for good deeds. He watches as his brother comes and goes with such ease. He knows. He just doesn't want to.

So, there's been some progress and also not so much. We'll keep trying, for a while anyway. You know, until the extra paper towels and Clorox wipes run out.
