We made one stop along the way, to visit with some of my old co-workers from my last job. Connor wasn't so sure about that, and was very bashful at first. He eventually came around and started laughing and playing with everyone. He was particularly fond of Stacey, who provided a small wooden airplane for amusement (trade show handout, if you're wondering). He's still playing with it this afternoon!
We eventually made it to the children's museum. We started off in the same spot as always, the market area. We loaded all the food into reusable cloth bags, then packed them into the back of the Gator, then pretended to drive them home. We also made a short visit to the train table, which actually turned in to a long visit. There was no one there to fight over the trains, so he had a big time.
By this time, of course, a potty break was needed. So we opted to go to the back room (more of a mini-preschool room) that has blocks and puzzles and kitchen equipment and other assorted toys. As usual, it was empty and Connor had the run of the place. We spent the remainder of our time here, and he was not a happy camper when it was time to go.
But we needed to pick up brothers. We were running a bit behind after his reluctance to leave, so there wasn't even time to pick up lunch! That did not sit well with King Connor either. The lower lip even came out for a while.
And, of course, Mommy caved. She was hungry, too, and very tired of fixing meals that the kids don't really eat. We opted for McDonald's, which the little guys (and the rest of us) don't get as much anymore now that I do my grocery shopping between school hours. We got it to go, and took it to the little neighborhood park down between our house and the McDonald's.
Apparently I was feeling brave today.
We had lunch in the truck with the windows down, enjoying the cool breeze and cloudy skies. And then we made our way to the park. Connor and Xander were more than ready. Sawyer held my hand and was willing to be led along. And they all did remarkably well.
Sawyer wanted me to swing with him a lot, but otherwise, they just played. Connor was even tired and ready to go at the end. Everyone came willingly to the truck, without tears or having to be carried.
A good trip. A good day.
